Hertz offers time off for new parents to recover from birth and to spend time with a new child. You’re eligible if you're a full-time regular (non-casual and non-temporary) employee with at least 12 continuous months of employment.
How It Works
Birth mothers can take eight weeks of Paid Parental Leave, due to physical inability to work after the birth of a child. In addition, you can take two weeks of Paid Parental Leave to bond with your children if:
- You are a birth mother
- Your spouse/domestic partner gives birth to a child
- You adopt a child or have a child placed for foster care (child must be age 17 or younger)
- You have a child placed with you by surrogacy
Adoption of a stepchild is excluded.
Paid Parental Leave must be completed within six months of the child’s birth, adoption, foster placement, or surrogacy placement.
To Request Leave
Notify your manager and MetLife at least 30 days before you plan to begin leave. If there are unforeseen circumstances, such as premature delivery, give notice as soon as possible. Here’s how to submit your request.
You must provide appropriate documentation, such as a copy of the child’s birth certificate or adoption papers, before the leave begins or as soon as possible.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Short-Term Disability (STD)
All time off under STD and Paid Parental Leave is concurrent with FMLA. For example, if you’re a birth mother, you’ll receive 10 total weeks of Paid Parental Leave (8 weeks to recover + 2 weeks to bond). If you choose to take 12 weeks of FMLA time, two of those 12 weeks will be unpaid.
