When does coverage begin?

Anyone hired on or after April 1, 2018, has the option to enroll in medical, dental, and vision coverage on their date of hire (Day 1 Coverage). Or they can choose the standard coverage option and enroll in all benefits on the first of the month following 60 days (Standard Coverage). Employees select an option when they enroll.

Day 1 Coverage:

  • Coverage begins on the first day of hire (day 1)
  • Can enroll in medical, dental, and vision coverage for day 1
  • All other benefits begin on the first of the month following 60 days
  • Employee pays 100% of benefit premiums until the first of the month following 60 days
  • Thereafter, employee pays the Hertz subsidized premiums

Standard Coverage:

  • Coverage begins on the first of the month after 60 days
  • Can enroll in all benefits
  • Employee pays the Hertz subsidized premiums

Other rules may apply for Union employees, employees in Hawaii, any employee whose status is Casual (CL), and those employed by Hertz Transporting Inc. (HTI) or Hertz Local Edition Transporting.

Can employees cover spouses/domestic partners and/or children under Hertz's benefits?

Yes. Eligible employees can cover the following dependents under the medical, dental, and vision plans:

  • Their children (including any legal stepchild, adopted child, or foster child)
  • Their legal spouse/domestic partner, if he or she doesn’t have access to minimum value health coverage through his or her own employer 

In addition, if eligible employees are enrolled, they can purchase the following coverage for their dependents:

  • Dependent Life Insurance
  • AD&D coverage
